Air Ambulance Carrying Six Goes Missing Over Atlantic on Bermuda-to-Boston Flight

Meta Description: A Gulfstream G100 air ambulance carrying six people has gone missing off Nantucket while transporting a patient from Bermuda to Boston, prompting a major U.S. Coast Guard search operation.

A Gulfstream G100 air ambulance carrying six people has gone missing over the Atlantic Ocean while flying from Bermuda to Boston, prompting a major search-and-rescue operation off the coast of Massachusetts.

The Canadian-registered aircraft, operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, departed Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport early Saturday and was transporting a patient to Boston for medical care. It was carrying two pilots, two medical personnel, one patient and a family member.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a search-and-rescue alert was issued at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time after air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft. The jet was scheduled to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport but failed to reach its destination.

The U.S. Coast Guard launched air and surface teams to search waters near Nantucket, Massachusetts. The operation includes aircraft, helicopters, rescue boats and a Coast Guard cutter.

Flight-tracking data indicated that the aircraft experienced a rapid descent shortly before contact was lost, although authorities have not yet established what caused the emergency.

The Government of Bermuda said it was in contact with the families of those aboard and with authorities coordinating the search.

As of the latest official updates, the search remained underway and authorities had not announced the discovery of the aircraft or confirmed the condition of the six people aboard.
