FIA’s Commercial Banking Circle Karachi has launched an investigation after recovering a total of $55,100 from two UAE-bound passengers and locations allegedly linked to them.
The Federal Investigation Agency’s Commercial Banking Circle (CBC) Karachi has launched an investigation into an alleged foreign currency smuggling case involving two passengers travelling to the United Arab Emirates.
According to the FIA, the passengers were intercepted at Jinnah International Airport Karachi during checking and questioning, where officials initially recovered $25,100 in US currency.
Information obtained during the subsequent investigation led FIA teams to conduct further searches at locations allegedly linked to the suspects, resulting in the recovery of an additional $30,000.
The total foreign currency recovered in the case has therefore risen to $55,100.
FIA officials have also begun examining the circumstances surrounding the passengers’ airport clearance and are investigating whether any other individuals or facilitators may have been connected to the alleged movement of the currency.
The agency’s Immigration Wing has previously stated that it works with other law-enforcement authorities to combat illegal movement of foreign currency and suspected money-laundering activities at Pakistan’s borders and airports.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source, intended destination and purpose of the recovered funds.
The allegations against the detained individuals remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and final responsibility will be determined by the courts.
