Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar ul Hassan has criticised the reported use of a red carpet for Sharjeel Inam Memon’s vehicle during the inauguration of Karachi’s Mosamiyat Flyover.
Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar ul Hassan has strongly criticised the reported laying of a red carpet for Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon’s vehicle during the inauguration ceremony of the Mosamiyat Flyover in Karachi.
The flyover, a key component of the Red Line BRT project, was inaugurated by Memon on September 27, with Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad also attending the ceremony.
In a video statement, Iqrar questioned what achievement justified extending red-carpet treatment to a minister’s vehicle.
He used the red carpet as a symbolic reference to what he described as the hardships faced by people across Sindh, particularly children deprived of adequate education, mothers struggling to access healthcare and citizens facing shortages of basic public services.
His remarks focused on what he portrayed as a contrast between official protocol and the everyday difficulties faced by sections of the public.
The criticism comes as the Sindh government highlights the Mosamiyat Flyover as part of its ongoing infrastructure development programme in Karachi. Memon, speaking at the inauguration, said work on University Road was nearing completion and acknowledged delays in the wider BRT project.
